The Turn
What breaks a team is rarely a lack of intelligence.
I trained as a doctor in Estonia and Finland, then spent two decades where the decision could not wait and being wrong carried a cost you could measure: critical care, acute cardiology, the cath lab. One pattern kept surfacing. Teams did not fail for want of knowledge. They failed because the room to think had collapsed, and with it the honesty to challenge each other. That is what drew me out of clinical practice and into leadership: helping good people keep their judgement, and their humanity, when the pressure will not let up.
